Comprehensive Breast Center

Why Choose Saint Mary's

The Comprehensive Breast Center at Saint Mary’s offers convenience, comfort, and peace of mind for women seeking breast care along with clinical services found no where else in West Michigan.

Clinical Expertise and Leadership

We have the only fellowship-trained breast surgeons in West Michigan.  Dr. Jamie Caughran received her dedicated breast fellowship training from Beaumont. Dr. Jessica Keto received her breast surgical oncology fellowship training from Beth Israel/St. Luke's Roosevelt in New York. Both surgeons have brought their knowledge and expertise to Saint Mary’s.

The Comprehensive Breast Center is backed by the clinical expertise of The Lacks Cancer Center at Saint Mary’s, West Michigan’s only dedicated cancer hospital, and one of only 30 centers in the nation chosen as an NCI Community Cancer Centers Program. In fact, our program is the only breast program in the state of Michigan with three National Breast Center accreditations.

Saint Mary's Comprehensive Breast Center has state-of-the-art diagnostic and treatment technologies, including the latest in minimally invasive techniques.

Research and Clinical Trials.

We’re bringing the most promising clinical breast cancer research trials right here to Grand Rapids. We follow National Comprehensive Cancer Network guidelines, and offer our patients access to trials sponsored by the National Cancer Institute.

Team Approach.

Every breast cancer patient is given access to a Multidisciplinary Breast Team whose main focus is you. You do not just have one physician, you have a team. One team communicating with each other and with you. Nothing goes unnoticed, no question goes unanswered. It’s one of our strongest cancer-fighting tactics.

Patient Navigation.

We offer the services of a Breast Health Navigator to help patients and families navigate the complexities of cancer treatment. The Navigator serves as a consistent and knowledgeable clinical resource throughout the treatment continuum. The Breast Health Navigators are team members who contribute to your care in the following ways:

  • Coordinating all the details of diagnostic patient care
  • Helping women deal with the complicated feelings associated with a cancer diagnosis
  • Providing personalized information and support
  • Assisting with appointments and scheduling
  • Becoming the patient’s link to physicians, resources and therapies within the center
  • Navigators available to all patients needing diagnostic imagery and/or biopsy

Distinguishing Services

MammoPlus™

Our exclusive MammoPlus service ONLY available at the Comprehensive Breast Center provides a digital mammogram plus a NCI Breast Cancer Risk Assessment. There is no other place in the region where a patient can know their lifetime risk for developing invasive breast cancer as part of their mammogram service.

High Risk Program

We feel that it is important that a woman know her risk for breast cancer so it can be effectively managed. Our High Risk Program is dedicated to assessing, evaluating, monitoring, and managing patients at high risk.

Rapid Results™

All of our patients with a breast concern are offered same-day access to diagnostic services with results in 24 hours. There is no other program in the region that offers this access and care. Patients also receive access to a genetic evaluation.

Survivor Partner Program

The Survivor Partner Program matches newly diagnosed patients and patients going through the Rapid Results program and/or Multidisciplinary Clinic with a breast cancer survivor partner to provide immediate emotional support and information that only someone who has experienced breast cancer firsthand can offer.

MammaCare Clinical Breast Exams (CBEs)

All the breast health nurses in the Comprehensive Breast Center are nationally certified to perform MammaCare Clinical Breast Examinations, which are supported by the National Cancer Institute. We are the only program in the region who can demonstrate our dedication to CBEs.

Cancer Wellfit

Cancer Well-fit™ is an award-winning exercise program designed specifically for patients who are undergoing or have already undergone cancer treatment.

Holistic Therapies

Integrative therapies such as acupuncture and massage may be used along with mainstream care to manage symptoms, relieve stress and enhance quality of life for cancer patients. These therapies are effective in helping individuals cope with the physical, emotional and spiritual effects of cancer. Holistic therapies are also offered to non-cancer patients for symptom control. Learn more about these therapies provided in partnership with The Wege Institute for Mind, Body and Spirit.
