It was October of 2008, breast cancer awareness month; I was 42 years old, married with two small children and had never had a mammogram. I was extremely flat-chested and always joked that if I had any type of lump, I would be able to see it. October 27, 2008 - this is the day my life changed forever. This is the day I was diagnosed with breast cancer. Up until that point I was relatively healthy, a few medical hiccups but nothing of note. I was 32 at the time, married and living my life with my husband and dog. I was diagnosed at the age of 54 with breast cancer. It was the fall of 2004. We were on vacation and it was pouring down rain. I reached back into the car to get the umbrella. I not only felt something crack but heard it also. I had a difficult time breathing at first. When we returned home I went to the doctor. After I told him what had happened he said, "It sounds like you broke a rib." This was September of 2004. He said it could take a few months to heal.
